What Is Carbon Emission/Release?
Carbon emission is the release of carbon dioxide gas into the atmosphere as a result of the combustion of carbon-containing fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas and coal. The release of carbon dioxide into the air causes air pollution, which has reached serious levels in recent years, especially with global warming.
The effects of carbon emissions, such as changing climate conditions, temperature increases, melting glaciers and rising sea levels, have become dangerous over time and will continue to do so if no precautions are taken. Pollution and global warming threaten the lives of all living beings, and many plant and animal species face extinction.
As this danger continues to increase day by day, global initiatives have begun to take measures. The Paris Agreement, signed by 196 countries on 12 December 2015, set the goal of keeping global warming below 2 degrees. Turkey signed the Paris Agreement on 22 April 2016, and the law approving its ratification entered into force on 7 October 2021. With the European Green Deal announced on 11 December 2019, the European Union set the goal of becoming the first climate-neutral continent by 2050.
Steps have begun toward energy sources that do not cause carbon emissions, support environmental protection and renew themselves continuously in nature. Renewable energy sources include hydro, geothermal, solar, wind, wood, plant residues, biomass, tidal and wave energy.
• Increased industrialisation
• Density caused by uncontrolled population growth
• Uncontrolled release of greenhouse gases
• Destruction and reduction of green areas and forests
• Decreased environmental awareness and lack of awareness of the danger
